School Board

Kayla and her husband Andrew are Highroad alumni and their three young children now attend Highroad. Kayla has a passion for Christian education and heading in to her fifth year on the board, she is grateful to serve in her role as chair of the school board. As a K-12 Highroad student and graduate, Kayla knows the difference that Highroad can make in the lives of students and their relationship with God. Highroad provides the framework and support for a life lived in service to Christ. Her heart is to continue to help and equip students and staff so that each Highroad student truly comes to know they are made on purpose for purpose.

James and his wife Elaine have lived in Chilliwack and been part of City Life Church since 1992. Having their four children attend Highroad Academy was a significant factor in their decision to move to Chilliwack and all of them proudly graduated from HRA between 1994 and 1997. In 2003, James joined the pastoral team at City life Church and joined the Highroad Academy School Board as part of his role on church staff. He has since retired but is delighted to continue serving on the board. James has been involved in Christian education since the early days of the movement in the late 1970s. In 1978, while Highroad was being launched in Chilliwack, James and his team also launched a school in their small, recently planted church in Hamilton, Ontario. James understands that while the generations move on and methods change the core values and purpose stay the same. It is exciting to still be part of the mission of discipling the next generation"

Greg and his wife Jacqueline are both Highroad alumni, and their four children are current Highroad students in the high school and intermediate departments. As a tech expert turned financial planner, Greg brings a wealth of experience and insight to our board and is also known to visit Highroad high school Career Ed classes to discuss financial stewardship and budgeting to help students get off to a solid start in this crucial area. Greg enjoys time with family, vacations to sunny places, and a good cup of coffee.

Tamara Mackie has been married to Jon Mackie for eighteen years and they have four children who attend Highroad. Tamara is a local real estate agent with Homelife Advantage Realty Ltd. Jon and Tamara met at City Life Church in 2002 and it has been their home church since. Although they did not attend Highroad they have seen the importance of Christian education for their children and for their futures. Tamara has served on the school board for 8 years and is a part of the finance committee. She loves being part of planning and building toward the growth of Highroad Academy. She dreams of the possibilities in our school’s development and is excited to help facilitate the steps forward. Tamara sees and loves being part of what Highroad brings to the lives of students, families, Chilliwack, and beyond!

Shaylene graduated from Highroad in 2009, after attending HRA from K-12. She has a passion for this school community and considers it home. She is blessed to serve on the Highroad Academy School Board and is committed to working hard to help our school community thrive. She sits on the community connections committee of the school board. Shaylene is married to Derek, and they have two young boys who attend Highroad. After spending time as a stay-at-home mom and as a home-based business owner, Shaylene has taken on the role as food class instructor in the grade 7-12 department. She is passionate about helping students understand the benefits of farm to table and environmentally sustainable eating practices while she teaches them how to develop their skills and abilities making really amazing food! She loves working with students and is excited to help Highroad continue to develop Christian disciples.

Alisha is serving on the Highroad School Board in her third year, and she hopes to bring a positive insight and strong work ethic to the Highroad Academy community. She serves on the community connections committee overseeing uniforms and parent nights. Alisha and her husband Jordan are Highroad alumni, and Alisha is a proud Highroad grad. After graduation from high school, Alisha has a background in social services. Alisha and Jordan have four young children, the oldest two attend Highroad. She and her husband believe it is their role to raise their children in the ways of the Lord, and they see Highroad as an important partner in this process. Alisha feels privileged to work with Highroad staff to help equip students to love and follow Jesus.

Cobi Ellis is honored to serve on the Highroad School Board, driven by a dedication to education, community and faith. His life journey alongside his wife Martina, a devoted Grade 2 teacher at Highroad, has been a wellspring of inspiration. Their family's journey at Highroad began with their daughters in elementary school, now advancing to high school. Recently, they celebrated their eldest daughter's graduation, now pursuing Film Production in Vancouver. Cobi holds an MBA from Trinity Western University and pursued studies at BCIT, Kwantlen College, Douglas College and Western Pentecostal Bible College. He's a lifelong learner, delving into other areas like marketing, leadership, blockchain, and Salesforce administration. With nearly two decades in full-time ministry, Cobi brings a faith-based perspective to guide the educational aspects of the Academy. Cobi approaches his role on the Highroad School Board with a steadfast commitment to drive impactful change. He is dedicated to leveraging his experience and expertise to make a tangible difference through service.

Dave has been part of CityLife Church for 3 years, since meeting his wife, Emily. Dave holds both a Bachelor of Arts (History) degree and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) degree from the University of British Columbia, as well as a Master’s of School Counselling degree. Having spent 8 years volunteering in Youth Ministry, Dave is passionate about equipping young people with not only a knowledge of God but also a relationship with Him and sees Highroad as a very important aspect of that growth. Dave is excited to be bringing his experience as an educator to the board and Highroad staff to help equip students to love and follow Jesus in a way that will impact the world around them.
